ABSTRACT : This article studies relationships between design and communication disciplines from a semiotic standpoint. The object of study that is put forward comes from the emerging “cultural analytics” approach, as it has been advanced by the Cultural Analytics Lab since 2008. After describing the “expression plane” of cultural analytic productions, we situate them within the framework of practices, mainly aesthetic and pedagogical. In this context, the role of design will help us to rethink the communicational process by taking into account different actors (human, technical, and cultural) that participate in the design and development of interactive objects, especially for the Web.
