ABSTRACT : In this article, we consider the problem of automatic digital data processing, when mediation is programmed by a computer device. Our goal is to shed light on the theoretical notions of device and technical object, as well as their influence in media practices. Indeed, we can notice that, with respect to certain computer interfaces that make it possible to process large numerical data, the results of the automatic analysis still elude semiotic interpretation. On the other hand, we will address the question of users’ gestures regarding these new devices and technical objects, as well as the increasing impact of virtuality and technological prostheses in communication practices.
